FBI officials Monday confirmed convicted murder Samuel Little is the most prolific known serial killer in U.S. history, after verifying 50 of the 93 killings he has confessed to committing.
Little confessed to murders in the years from 1970 to 2005, and authorities are seeking help to confirm the nearly 43 killings that have not yet been verified, reports The Hill.
"For many years, Samuel Little believed he would not be caught because he thought no one was accounting for his victims," Christie Palazzolo, an analyst with the FBI's Violent Criminal Apprehension (ViCAP) Program, commented. "Even though he is already in prison, the FBI believes it is important to seek justice for each victim — to close every case possible."
Little mainly targeted drug addicts and sex workers, while living a nomadic lifestyle and was able to evade justice for years. At first, many of his victims' deaths had been blamed on overdoses.
He had been convicted for the deaths of three women in the Los Angeles area and was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences, and has pleaded guilty to killing another woman in 1994 in Texas. He has been extradited to Texas, where he will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.
