Lindsey Graham: All of Obama's Actions on Syria 'Late and Half-Assed'

Reports indicate that the United States is working to provide arms for Syria, but Sen. Lindsey Graham said Wednesday he doubts that it will work, as "everything [Barack] Obama has done has been late and half-assed."

"We allowed the Russians and Iranians to prop Assad up," the South Carolina Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" program. "Nobody in the region believes Obama has their back.

"He drew a red line against [Bashar al-] Assad and filed to back it up and withdrew from Iraq. This is more bluster than anything else. We lost the ability to negotiate."

Further, Graham said that people who think that such plans kept the United States out of a war need to "go somewhere else in terms of getting their evaluations done," because "Syria is a nightmare," as "250,000 people killed in Syria bothers me greatly."

There are more Syrian children in schools than Lebanese, said Graham, and "the King of Jordan is hanging on by a thread."

Further, thousands of fighters have been trained in Syria, and "they are coming here and in Brussels," said Graham. "They allowed the butcher of Damascus to firmly be in power. This has put the whole world in chaos."

If the United States had bombed Assad's airfields earlier on, that could have stopped the current situation, Graham agreed.

"Assad was on the road to the entire national security team to train the free Syrian army, and he took a pass," said Graham. Also, had Obama left troops behind in Iraq, there would be no ISIS.

"Obama is going to go and the next president has a mess on their hands," said Graham.

And at this point, Graham said, he doesn't believe there are any plans Obama can make work, as "nobody in the region trusts him."

"It's going to take a new president, in my view, with a new strategy to get Syria right," said Graham.
