Rush Limbaugh: GOP Still Afraid of Obama

By    |   Thursday, 31 October 2013 10:45 AM EDT

Republicans are too timid in their attacks on President Barack Obama, according to Rush Limbaugh, who says it's "a big mistake" for the GOP to criticize the president for claiming ignorance about Obamacare problems and the extent of U.S. spying on allied leaders.

"Everybody's now caught up in whether Obama knows the details of this or not, and I'm just gonna tell you, he doesn't care," Limbaugh declared on his radio talk show Wednesday.

"He doesn't care. [Chinese leader] Mao Tse-Tung didn't know the details, all of them. Neither did Fidel [Castro]," he said, comparing the president's handling of the controversies to the way the two communist leaders disclaimed knowledge about the oppression their own people.

For some reason, Limbaugh said, Republicans still seem afraid of going after Obama, even in light of the disastrous rollout of the Obamacare website.

He cited the hearing Wednesday on Capitol Hill, where Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius testified about website problems as an example.

Most observers thought Republicans were overly aggressive in their questioning. Limbaugh disagreed.

"It didn't seem to me that the Republicans were organized or prepared and the Democrats are," he said. "We've got a gold mine here and we're not using it."

"It's like there's still a fear of going after Obama, or going after Sebelius, just from the consultant level of the party or whoever's running the Republican party . . . to back off.

"There is no Republican strategy," he said, except to let Obamacare implode on its own.

Part of the problem, Limbaugh said, is that Republicans don't really believe they can win in a hard fight with the administration over Obamacare and don't believe they deserve to win.

"They don't think they can win because of the media, they don't think they can win because of whatever — and if they don't think they can win, they're not gonna try," he said.

"Republicans had a chance here to try to convince people, 'We don't want this. We have to find a way to get rid of it. It's hurting too many people . . . and if the people watching do not have as a takeaway that we want to get rid of this, then no damage done, right?"
