"Last Man Standing" could move to CMT after ABC canceled the Tim Allen comedy series.
A deal for original episodes between CMT, which carries reruns of the sitcom, and 20th Century Fox Television is considered a "long shot," Deadline reported.
The series features Allen playing a political conservative and devout Christian. Its cancellation sparked a petition that has gained about 398,000 signatures on Change.org calling on ABC to renew the show.
"It is a show that appeals to a broad swath of Americans who find very few shows that extol the virtues with which they can identify; namely conservative values," the petition says.
Howard Kurtzman of 20th Century Fox Television told The Hollywood Reporter, "If there's a way to bring it back, we will explore those opportunities."
The decision to cancel the show after six seasons came as a surprise to many as the show has maintained steady ratings.
"There are many factors that go into the decision-making process: ratings, critical acclaim … of course we look at ownership structure," ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey told The Hollywood Reporter, adding that Allen's political affiliation wasn't a determining factor.
Allen has compared being conservative in Hollywood to 1930s Germany, saying on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" that "You get beat up if you don't believe what everybody believes. This is like '30s Germany. I don't know what happened. If you're not part of the group, you know, 'What we believe is right!' I go, 'Well I might have a problem with that.' I'm a comedian, I like going on both sides."
CMT has picked up other canceled shows, including ABC's cancelled "Nashville" last year, Deadline noted.
Twitter users expressed support of the show's revival.
