Kellyanne Conway: Rep. Joaquin Castro Put Together 'Target List'

Presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway panned Rep. Joaquin Castro's public record defense for releasing the names of prominent donors to President Donald Trump, accusing him Wednesday of creating "some kind of target list."

"It doesn't matter that it's public record," Conway told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "It matters that he's put together some kind of target list, and he's trying to make life miserable or worse for law-abiding citizens who are expressing their First Amendment right to put their money where their politics is."

Rep. Castro, D-Texas, said Wednesday he released the list, which included names and employers of prominent donors in the San Antonio area, as a "lament" to the donations he said were spent to buy anti-Hispanic advertising.

Conway called on Castro, who is chairing his brother Julian's bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, to pull down the list from Twitter.

"He's a member of Congress, he has a responsibility and accountability to protect the population, not to try to make them a target," Conway said.

Also during the interview, Conway claimed Trump "introduced the idea" of red flag legislation to keep firearms and guns out of the hands of violent criminals, leading to a fact-check from show co-host Bill Hemmer.

"Some of these red flag laws are already in place in 17 states and Washington D.C.," he told her, and she agreed quickly.

Trump, she said, wants the "federal legislature to take the best practices from the states and put it into federal legislation."
