Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., may have lost some Republican support after backing the impeachment of President Donald Trump, but he’s getting one of Fox News’ biggest guns to help his campaign.

Longtime Fox News Political Contributor Karl Rove is set to headline a March 31st virtual fundraiser for the embattled Illinois Congressman.

Rove, a former political strategist to George W. Bush, is on the Kinzinger for Congress list of more than 150 Republican supporters, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that Kinzinger “has emerged as a national leader of the non-Trump wing of the Republican Party because of his willingness to denounce conspiracy theories and Trump’s embrace of the lie that he won the election.”

The paper noted he also voted to remove newly elected Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., from her committee assignments.

Kinzinger was one of ten House Republicans to vote for the impeachment the former president, signing on to the Democrats' claim that Trump incited an insurrection on Jan. 6 when protesters stormed the U.S. Capitol.

Soon after his impeachment vote, the Illinois congressman, whose district straddles the Chicago suburbs, was reprimanded with a vote of censure by his own LaSalle County Republican Party.

“There doesn’t seem to be a camera or a microphone he won’t run to,” Larry Smith, the chairman of the La Salle County Republican Party Central Committee, told The New York Times, who complained that the congressman had had little contact with his Republican constituents. “He used to talk to us back in the good old days.”

Though 11 of Kinzinger's relatives signed letters blasting his vote to impeach Trump, Kinzinger's parents and a brother are listed on the invitation to the fundraiser.

Among the former Trump administration members on the host committee list are Ron Gidwitz, former ambassador to Belgium, and Barbara Stewart, former AmeriCorps CEO.

Trump has criticized Rove after the Fox analyst said support for Trump among GOP activists was waning.

"Never had much of a feeling for Karl, in that I disagreed with so many of the things he says," Trump wrote in a statement from his Save America PAC, urging Fox News to fire Rove. "He's a pompous fool with bad advice and always has an agenda."

Kinzinger has yet to officially make a decision on his political future and is said to be considering a bid for U.S. Senate or governor. Critics say his opposition to Trump may have been calculated to help him win such a race in heavily Democratic Illinois.

Newsmax reached out to Fox News to comment on Rove's fundraiser appearance and did not receive a response at the time of publication.
