Joe Lieberman Lauds Trump for Bringing Kim to Table

(Fox News/"Fox and Friends")

President Donald Trump should be given credit for his negotiations with North Korea on denuclearization, because bringing Kim Jong Un to the table is an achievement in and of itself, according to former Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn.

"We all ought to be grateful to President Trump for bringing Chairman Kim to the table,"  Lieberman, who finished his service as an independent, told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" on Sunday morning.

Denuclearizing North Korea is a long and difficult endeavor, he added, pointing to the flawed mere "pause" negotiated in former President Barack Obama's Iran nuclear deal, where the U.S. gave up loads of cash to Iran but did not fully achieve denuclearization.

"I think you're not going to solve it all at these meetings in Hanoi [Vietnam]," Lieberman admitted, before adding:

"I don't think he's going to negotiate a bad deal with the North Koreans. Don't expect too much this week, but I hope it's something significant that gets us on the road to a good deal, which would be good for the world and would be good for North Korea."
