CNN: Biden Calling Strategists in Early Voting States

Vice President Joe Biden is personally calling Democratic strategists in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina to talk about a possible run for president, CNN reports. 

Biden is asking questions that focus on how to launch a campaign – not whether he should, CNN says.

Biden is telling the strategists that his family is fully behind a campaign, CNN's sources say, because they believe he has the best chance of keeping the White House in Democratic hands. Recent polls show Biden beating theoretical GOP opponents, while current front-runner Hillary Clinton would lose to them if the election were held today.

"His family is totally on board," one Democrat who talked to Biden this week told the network. "He wants to do this."

But one of Biden's questions is whether he has waited too long. Clinton had an impressive showing at this week's debate, which many observers said sealed Biden's fate. Others, say he still can get in, but must act quickly.

Two points in Biden's favor, CNN notes, is that he has full access to the Obama campaign email list, and there are several labor unions who still have not endorsed any Democrats.
