Sixty percent of Americans say President Donald Trump made the wrong decision in pardoning former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio, a new NBC News/Survey Monkey poll revealed.
Thirty-four percent of those surveyed say Trump was right to pardon Arpaio, who was convicted of criminal contempt for not obeying a judge’s order to stop detaining immigrants suspected of being undocumented, the poll found.
Here are the highlights from the survey:
- 61 percent say they have an unfavorable impression of Trump, compared to 36 percent who said they have a favorable view of him.
- 63 percent view House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., unfavorably, while 31 percent have a favorable impression of him.
- 64 percent say they have an unfavorable view of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., compared to 30 percent who say they have a favorable impression of her.
- 64 percent of those polled support the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which protects those who were brought to the U.S. as undocumented children from being deported. Thirty percent oppose the program
The poll, conducted from Aug. 24-29, surveyed 10,129 adults. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.4 percentage points.
