Rep. Crow: Trump's Ukraine Actions Affected 'Real Lives'

By    |   Thursday, 23 January 2020 02:48 PM EST

House Democrats are presenting their case against President Donald Trump in a "very serious and sober way" because "real people and real lives" were affected when President Donald Trump delayed the release of military funding to Ukraine, Rep. Jason Crow, one of the House impeachment managers, commented Thursday.

"This is not some political theory exercise," the Colorado Democrat told MSBNC's "Morning Joe." "There are bullets flying. There are artillery rounds coming down in eastern Ukraine today, every day. There are people getting hurt, and these people are our friends. We have over 60,000 U.S. Troops and their families stationed not too far from that area. So this is real stuff. Real people are getting hurt."

Crow said he and other Democrats are presenting their case against President Trump not only to the Senate, but the American people, but at the end of the day, the Senate does have to pass judgment here. I do think they're taking it seriously."

The ultimate test, though, will be whether Senate Republicans take the testimony seriously or if "they'll be a rubber stamp for the president."

Crow, who has served as a U.S. Army Green Beret, will speak during Thursday's testimony, and he said that that he believes that if the president wants to "use national security funds and jeopardize our national security and put our men and women at risk and American allies at risk for a campaign, the American people will know about it."

He also said he realizes that the testimony may feel repetitive, but most Americans aren't watching the entire trial for hours, so the House managers are presenting the information in a way to make it accessible for all.

In addition, Crow said that the process brings months of inquiry into a "full, complete, and frankly damning package" against Trump.

"You're seeing the president's own words, the words of his closest advisers, seeing the words of his political appointees," said Crow. "It's pretty clear what happened."
