Dem Reps. Beyer, Lieu: Revoke Kushner's Clearance

Democratic Reps. Don Beyer of Virginia and Ted Lieu of California are urging acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney to revoke senior adviser Jared Kushner’s security clearance.

Their request came in a letter to Mulvaney on Thursday. A copy of the letter was posted by Lieu on his Twitter account.

“We urge you to immediately revoke the security clearance of Senior White House Adviser Jared Kushner, and to comply with past and future oversight requests from Congress related to security clearances, information security, and other matters of national security,” Beyer and Lieu wrote.

Kushner’s top secret security clearance was rejected twice by White House security analysts due to concerns about potential foreign influence on him, but a supervisor overruled their recommendation, sources told NBC News.

Beyer and Lieu cited the NBC report in their letter and noted they had raised concerns in the past about Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law.

“We raised these concerns in five separate letters to the Trump administration,” they said,

“The White House has yet to address any of these issues, and new reporting suggests that there has been an intentional, concerted effort within the Executive Office of the President to cover for Jared Kushner in the face of similar objections raised by the career professionals who evaluate appointees’ suitability for security clearances.”
