"The Late Late Show" host James Corden slammed HBO host Bill Maher for encouraging fat-shaming to make a comeback and challenging the notion that "being fat is a bad thing."

Maher passed the controversial remarks during an episode of "Real Time" last week. In the segment, he argued that being fat "isn't a birth defect" and that "nobody comes out of the womb needing to buy two seats on the airplane," USA Today reported.

"Fat-shaming doesn't need to end. It needs to make a comeback," Maher continued.

Corden said that while watching the segment, all he could think was that somebody needed to speak up and take a stand.

"And then I realized, oh, that will be me," he said Thursday night on his show. "There is a common and insulting misconception that fat people are stupid and lazy and we're not," he continued. "Like we get it. We know. We know that being overweight isn't good for us. And I've struggled my entire life trying to manage my weight. And I suck at it."

Corden said Maher had only ever been "pleasant and kind and nice," which is why his comments were such a surprise, according to The Wrap.

In his show, Maher also took issue with the concept of fat acceptance. He argued that there were no such things as "smoking acceptance" or "drunk acceptance," which were also lifestyle choices.

Corden had something to say about that too.

"We're not all as lucky as Bill Maher, you know. We don't all have a sense of superiority that burns 35,000 calories a day, right?" he said. "While you're encouraging people to think about what goes into their mouths, just think a little harder about what comes out of yours."
