MRC's Dan Gainor: Coverage of Israeli-Hamas Conflict 'Atrocious'

By    |   Friday, 08 August 2014 02:29 PM EDT

The mainstream media's "overall coverage" of the conflict between Israel and Hamas is "atrocious," says Dan Gainor, president of business and culture of the media watchdog group Media Research Center.

"What they do is they cover a free nation, the most free and Democratic nation in the Middle East ,as if it's the moral equivalent of the terrorist location right next door," Gainor told J.D. Hayworth on "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV.

"They will spin it by showing only Israelis attacking and Palestinians damaged or harmed," he explained. "They'll call the Palestinians fighters, militants," instead of terrorists.

"In one embarrassing CBS appearance they'll call them soldiers by a factor of 13-1 to terrorists," he added. "It's outlandish."

There have also been other issues with specific reporters, as well.

"CNN had to send home one of its reporters because she referred to Israelis on Twitter as scum," Gainor explained.

"NBC has Ayman Mohyeldin in Gaza," the MRC official said. "Ayman used to work for Al Jazeera. Al Jazeera is funded by the royalty of Qatar, which conveniently also funds Hamas."

"It's fair to say Ayman's coverage of Gaza is all very, very positive from the Hamas side," he added.
