A new video allegedly originating from the Islamic State shows a young boy executing a man accused of being an Israeli spy,
The Jerusalem Post reported.
The man, an Israeli Arab called Muhammad Musallam, confesses in the video to being a spy for Mossad. According to Israeli officials, he joined the Islamic State (ISIS) in October after vanishing on a trip to Syria, the Post reported.
Musallam appears in an orange jumpsuit in the video talking about how he had been recruited and trained by Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service. He also said his father and elder brother had encouraged him.
After the confession, the video showed Musallam being escorted to a field and executed by a boy, described by an older, French-speaking fighter standing alongside him as one of the "cubs of the caliphate."
The victim's family insists that Musallam, 20, was not a Mossad agent and that he was killed for attempting to leave the terrorist group, according to
The Times of Israel.
"I tried to call him and the telephone was turned off," Musallam's father told
Ha'aretz. "I thought that maybe he was busy. After a week we got an email that he wanted to be a martyr and he was giving up everything in his life and his family."
He told the Times of Israel, "I don't know what they did to him. Maybe they gave him drugs before he boarded the plane, promises of paradise and money," the father said, adding that when Musallam first went to Syria his son was against the terrorist group due to its tactics.
But when he tried to leave by trying to cross back into Turkey, he was stopped and arrested by Islamic State fighters.
Separate to the executions of other victims of the Islamic State, this video was notable because the killer looks to be a boy, around 13 years old, who shot Musallam in the head. It is at least the second time that a child plays the role of executioner, according to
CNN.
