The political divide in the United States has been "exacerbated" by the media, contributing to a nation whose people have become "more and more partisan," the former chairman and CEO of CNN, Walter Isaacson, said Wednesday,

In an interview on Bloomberg's "What'd You Miss" program, Isaacson, who now heads the education and policy studies' Aspen Institute, decried Washington's "enormous political divide."

And he said the media is partly to blame.

"[T]he divides in our country have been exacerbated by all forms of media," he declared, adding, "People are getting more and more partisan."

Though asked if Fox News' supposed bias toward President Donald Trump was worsening the fracturing of journalism, Isaacson dismissed any one outlet is worse than any other.

"I put everybody [in the media] in the category, including all of us, that we can step back from knee-jerk partisan elections…that would be good," he said.

Yet, Isaacson said, it's "probably true" that Fox News wields a powerful political influence with its viewers.

"One of the fingers in the wind is you are starting to see Fox News hosts have a lot more tough questions about Trump," he said, adding, however, there's no reason to impeach the president.

"At the moment, we have not finished any of the investigations," he said.
