Google said it has terminated dozens of YouTube accounts linked to Iran, The Wall Street Journal is reporting.
Investigators for Google obtained information that the accounts are connected with Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting. They date back to at least January 2017, the newspaper said.
In all, the company took down 39 video channels on YouTube. It also terminated six blogs on Blogger and 13 accounts on its social network hub, Google+.
"Actors engaged in this type of influence operation violate our policies, and we swiftly remove such content from our services and terminate these actors' accounts," Kent Walker, Google’s senior vice president of global affairs.
Facebook said on Tuesday it had removed 652 pages, groups and accounts linked to Russia and, unexpectedly, Iran for "coordinated inauthentic behavior" that included the sharing of political material.
