Instagram said at least one hacker breached the accounts of several high-profile users, and blamed a system glitch that has now been fixed, Variety reported.
"We recently discovered that one or more individuals obtained unlawful access to a number of high-profile Instagram users' contact information – specifically email address and phone number — by exploiting a bug in an Instagram API," a representative said in a statement to the outlet.
No account passwords were exposed, according to Variety.
Instagram said it believes the hack was aimed at "high-profile users" and it notified verified account holders of the issue. The social media platform declined to disclose which accounts may have been breached.
The announcement comes two days after hackers posted nude photos of Justin Bieber to Selena Gomez's Instagram account, which has 125 million followers. Gomez's page was briefly taken down before being restored later in the day.
