Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday said she worries the Republican Party "is imploding," according to a video posted on Twitter by ABC News.
Her comments follow Republican Sen. Jeff Flake's announcement that he would not seek reelection in 2018 because he felt a "traditional conservative … has a narrower and narrower path to nomination in the Republican Party."
Flake, in his shocking speech Tuesday, also bashed President Donald Trump and the GOP, saying his party was abandoning "core principles" in favor of "anger and resentment."
Clinton, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, said the party "is becoming a far-right, captive party to ideological religious and commercial interests, it is at the mercy of its financial backers and a cabal of leaders who are doing things like shrinking the electorate, gerrymandering, and taking every step they can to maintain power for themselves and those who are like-minded."
Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., who has also publicly feuded with the president, announced in late September that he would not seek reelection in 2018.
"You know, we've seen in the last week, we've seen Bob Corker, we've seen Jeff Flake . . . there are a lot of other people in the Republican Party who feel exactly the same way," Clinton said.
"And I think when they appear on TV, or they are interviewed, they need to be pressed . . . I mean, there are a lot of things that I worry about, this is actually on my list, of what I worry about. The Republican Party is imploding."
