The federal judge who oversaw a lawsuit against Trump University – and was accused of being biased by President Donald Trump because of his Mexican heritage – will reportedly preside over a controversial "Dreamer" deportation case.
USA Today reports District Judge Gonzalo Curiel – who okayed a $25 million settlement between Trump and students who claimed they were bilked – has been assigned to the case of Juan Manuel Montes, a 23-year-old deported in February despite being approved for the Deferred Actions for Childhood Arrivals, which protects illegal immigrants brought to America as children.
Curiel's assignment to the case was completely coincidental, USA Today reported.
Curiel will be asked to decide whether U.S. Customs and Border Protection should release information on Montes' deportation to his team of attorneys, the outlet reported.
Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Gillian Christensen has said Montes’ DACA status expired in 2015 and was not renewed, while Montes' attorney has claimed it's valid until 2018, The Hill reported.
No court date has been set.
