Border security remains the No.1 priority in any immigration reform bill adopted by Washington lawmakers, Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert says.
“Securing the border … We could get an agreement quickly if we would just get the border secured,’’ Gohmert told Newmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show.’’

Gohmert’s sentiments echo the “Gang of Eight,’’ a bipartisan group of senators who on Wednesday formally filed legislation that makes border security its top priority.
The bill calls for "high risk border’’ areas which have at least 30,000 illegal crossings a year to be sealed.
Gohmert — who represents the Lone Star State’s First Congressional District and is a member of the Homeland Security Committee — said the savings would be substantial.
“Tens of millions of dollars would be saved simply by securing the border,’’ he said.
“That would more than pay for any fence, any wall, any drones, any manpower on the border to make sure that people are not coming in who shouldn’t be coming in.’’
