Global Warming Talk Is All Just Hot Air

By    |   Wednesday, 05 November 2008 03:06 PM EST

For a lot of years when I worked in presidential and congressional elections, we lost. Like most of my colleagues, I joined in the finger pointing, blaming the people in charge for running inept campaigns and suggesting that what had not been done was the reason for the losses.

I'm too old and I hope a lot wiser now to take part in that useless exercise. I'll let those sleeping dogs lie, and try to concentrate on what is really important: what the future holds for all mankind. In that context the only part the new political situation plays is Barack Obama's determination to deal with a threat that does not exist — he wants to further cripple the economy by combating global warming that isn't happening when the real threat is global cooling on a massive scale.

As a result, when our attention should be focused on how we can deal with a real and immediate major shift in the global climate, it is concerned instead with how we should approach what is provably an imaginary threat based on imaginary science. Belief that the planet is fast approaching a conflagration that will deep fry the Earth is a triumph of fiction over fact. To waste our time and treasure combating a ginned-up threat, while at the same time ignoring the real challenge is nothing short of blithering idiocy.

The Earth is not warming. The 28-year period of warming between 1970 and 1998 stopped dead in its tracks, and the climate has been cooling ever since.

That's a fact, but the global warmiacs ignore facts because they sometimes tend to be inconvenient. So while we shiver in the cold, they shriek that we're doomed to be roasted sooner or later. Their computers are rigged to tell them what they want to hear.

Meteorologist and Weather Channel founder John Coleman put it this way: “In the face of a rapidly cooling planet, all the proponents of global warming can do is to lamely suggest that global warming has gone on vacation and is taking a 10-year hiatus on account of the absence of sun spots. If this weren’t so serious it would be laughable,” Coleman said.

“It is the greatest scam in history,” he said. “I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global warming — it is a scam. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create in allusion [sic] of rapid global warming.

"Other scientists of the same environment wacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the 'research' to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon, they claimed to be a consensus.”

Echoing that thought is Bob Carter, a geologist at James Cook University, Queensland, Australia: "Since the early 1990s, the columns of many leading newspapers and magazines worldwide have carried an increasing stream of alarmist letters and articles on hypothetical, human-caused climate change. Each such alarmist article is larded with words such as 'if, ' 'might,’ ‘could,’ 'probably,’ 'perhaps,’ 'expected,’ 'projected,' or 'modeled,' and many involve such deep dreaming, or ignorance of scientific facts and principles, that they are akin to nonsense."

Escalating the verbal onslaught, Carter wrote, "The problem here is not that of climate change per se, but rather that of the sophisticated scientific brainwashing that has been inflicted on the public, bureaucrats and politicians alike. Governments generally choose not to receive policy advice on climate from independent scientists. Rather, they seek guidance from their own self-interested science bureaucracies and senior advisers, or from the IPCC itself. No matter how accurate it may be, cautious and politically non-correct science advice is not welcomed in Westminster, nor is it widely reported."

The climate is in a cooling phase: A pronounced global cooling has set in so far this century. This year, most of the northern hemisphere, except for Western Europe, experienced what most scientists say was the harshest winter in decades.

And this year, winter has come early with record-breaking cold and October blizzards.

Al Gore and his minions assure us that the frozen North, where cold fronts originate, is warming.

That’s not what the National Weather Service in Barrow, Alaska, tells us in an Oct. 31 bulletin reporting "All-time Record Monthly Snowfall in Barrow."

The area recorded 23.2 inches of snowfall, breaking the all-time monthly record of 21.2 inches set in October 1925, the weather service noted.

I have reported previously that 13 top scientists, including one Nobel Prize winner, wrote a letter to U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon saying that, while carbon dioxide levels have continued to rise, global temperatures have fallen, dramatically contradicting the claim that high carbon dioxide levels cause global warming. They wrote that the U.N. Climate Change Panel "must be called to account and cease its deceptive practices — policies based on false science must be ended."

We are approaching the onset of a new ice age. For millions of years, ice ages have occurred on a regular schedule of every 100,000 years, with 90,000 years of glaciation followed by about 12,000 years of interglacial climate. The last ice age ended 12,000 years ago. A new ice age is upon us.
