After 27 overheating incidents and three severe burn injuries were reported, Generac is recalling 64,000 portable generators.

The generators’ fuel tank fails to vent properly, causing it to build up excess pressure and expel fuel when opened, the company said.

Generac is telling customers to immediately stop using the generators and contact the company for a free repair kit, which may take six to eight weeks to arrive.

The products were sold online and at home improvement and hardware retail stores between April 2011 and June 2023 for $3,300 to $3,650.

The recall includes portable generator types GP15000E and GP175000E. Additional model numbers can be found on Generac’s website.
