Gingrich Blasts 'Nut-Cake Ideologues' Behind Obamacare

By    |   Saturday, 12 April 2014 02:07 PM EDT

Newt Gingrich isn't holding back in his criticism of the Cabinet secretary and others behind the troubled rollout of the healthcare law.

The former House speaker and Republican presidential candidate calls Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and other Democrats "are nut-cake ideologues" and less than competent.

Gingrich is among the prominent Republicans appearing at the Freedom Summit of conservatives in Manchester, N.H., on Saturday.

Gingrich and other speakers attacked the health law — and a central piece of the GOP's strategy heading into the fall elections.

His New Hampsire remarks came a day after he said, in a biting opinion piece for CNN, that Sebelius was "right to resign" after "delivering a breakdown when a breakout was possible."

"Americans should be able to expect that people who enter high public office will see their job as a public duty and will view faithfully serving the public and administering the laws as their solemn obligation," he wrote.

What America got instead was an administrator who operated "in a secretive and extraordinarily partisan manner that frequently ignored, violated and changed the law at whim," he wrote.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
