Americans would award President Donald Trump's suggested Fake News Trophy to either Fox or CNN, depending on their political bent, a new poll showed.

The Rasmussen Reports survey released Thursday found 65 percent of likely voters consider fake news a big problem — with 42 percent describing it as a very big problem.

But despite President Trump's gushing praise of Fox News — and his belief they would not be in competition for the Fake News Trophy — 42 percent of respondents picked the network to take the trophy home.

CNN came in second place with 25 percent, MSNBC followed with 9 percent, ABC with 4 percent, CBS with 3 percent, and NBC with 2 percent.

Six percent say the award should go to someone else, and 11 were undecided.

Broken down by political parties, the survey found 53 percent of Democrats and 42 percent of unaffiliated voters picked Fox News the winner; 24 percent of Republicans did so.

On the other hand, 40 percent of GOP voters chose CNN, a view shared by 13 percent of Democrats and 24 percent of unaffiliated voters.

The poll's margin of error was plus or minus 3 percentage points.
