Murdoch Apologizes again for Illegal Phone Hacking

Sunday, 17 July 2011 07:16 AM EDT

LONDON (AP) — The apologies keep coming from Rupert Murdoch, who has taken out a second newspaper ad promising that his News Corp. will make amends for the phone hacking scandal shaking his global media empire.

The ad in several British Sunday newspapers says News Corp. will assist the police investigation and there will be "be no place to hide" for wrongdoers.

It follows a full-page ad in Saturday's papers declaring, "We are sorry."

Last week Murdoch shut down the 168 year-old tabloid News of the World after it was accused of eavesdropping on celebrities, politicians, other journalists and even murder victims.

His critics say that is not enough. Britain's Labour Party leader Ed Miliband says Murdoch has "too much power" and his British media empire should be broken up.
