French President Emmanuel Macron is working on secularism reforms of Islam in France in 2018, vowing to "lay the groundwork for the entire organization of Islam in France," he reportedly told Journal du Dimanche.
"We are working on the structuring of Islam in France and also on how to explain it, which is extremely important," Macron told the France's Sunday Journal. "My goal is to rediscover what lies at the heart of secularism, the possibility of being able to believe as not to believe, in order to preserve national cohesion and the possibility of having free consciousness."
Macron's speech on the work has not been scheduled, but the French President is prepared to address Islamic worship in France, hoping to reduce the influence of fundamentalism and assure peace between religions and his country.
The plan, which is being worked up by the Ministry of the Interior, will reportedly include recommendations of how to fund places of worship and training of imams, reportedly hoping to "reduce the influence of the Arab countries, which prevent French Islam to return to modernity."
The public funding will be a sticky point for the French president, especially with regard to a proposal of a "Halal tax," which would tax those products to help raise money for the programs.
