Elon Musk Calls on Disney to Fire CEO Bob Iger

By    |   Thursday, 07 December 2023 04:29 PM EST

Elon Musk has called for Disney to fire its chief executive officer, Bob Iger, amid the company's advertisement boycott of the social media platform X.

Musk, who bought X last year, highlighted on his account a CNBC report about a New Mexico lawsuit accusing Meta Platforms, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, of looking past child sex trafficking content.

Iger "thinks it's cool to advertise next to child exploitation material," Musk posted on his X account. "Real stand up guy."

Musk followed up underneath the post when asked why Iger was still at the company.

"He should be fired immediately. Walt Disney is turning in his grave over what Bob has done to his company," Musk said of Iger.

In a separate post, Musk made his issue with Iger even clearer, asking why the Disney CEO has decided to boycott ads on his platform but continues doing business with Meta.

"You are endorsing this material!" Musk said.

X has been losing advertisers since Musk completely took over the company in March, largely due to his controversial political opinions and moderation decisions.

However, Musk is fighting back against a push from so-called "independent watchdog groups" like Media Matters of America, funded by left-wing donors, who have targeted his company and accelerated the ad exodus.

Musk alleged in a new lawsuit that Media Matters intentionally misrepresented data when it conducted a study showing that ads were allowed on X posts featuring pro-Nazi, antisemitic, and racist content.

At this year's DealBook Summit, hosted by The New York Times in Manhattan, Musk accused some large advertisers of trying to blackmail his company and urged them not to advertise if they continue to.

He specifically addressed Iger during the speech.

"Hey, Bob, if you're in the audience, that's how I feel. Don't advertise," Musk said.
