Fox Host Doocy: NY Times Knows Benghazi Attackers

By    |   Thursday, 02 January 2014 03:11 PM EST

"Fox & Friends" host Steve Doocy claimed it was clear someone who works for The New York Times knew "who murdered our four Americans" in the 2012 Benghazi attack, based on a Tweet Monday by a Times reporter.

"Now, so many months later, so many years later, we're finding out The New York Times actually had somebody there on the ground that night talking to the attackers?

"In other words, they would know, essentially, who murdered our four Americans. Have we really heard them flesh that story out?" Doocy asked Thursday on the show.

Doocy was responding to a Tweet by Times reporter David Kirkpatrick. He wrote the newspaper "had a reporter on the scene talking to the attackers during the attack."

Kirkpatrick's remark could contradict a report last weekend in the Times that discounted the role of al-Qaida in the Benghazi attack. The report claimed an American-made anti-Muslim video sparked the bombing that killed four Americans, as the White House originally stated.

"We knew The New York Times had reporters over there in the area at the time. But, we didn't know there was anybody there that night that it all went down. It would be very helpful if that person told the complete story," Doocy said.

Fox co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck wondered, in terms of public outrage over the loss of life in the attack, why the information hadn't been made known sooner.

"Where has this information been? [It's] certainly raising eyebrows there in terms of questions and what happened, and why this information was never released," Hasselbeck said.

Doocy commented that the reporter in Libya, who he said was of Libyan descent, "evidently was there and talked about who was at the gate and what they were telling him." He questioned why the reporter, upon seeing the attack, didn't call for help.

"That would have been a perfect time to call in for help. Did they? Maybe they did. And, maybe that's just never been reported," Doocy said.
