Democrats' satisfaction' with the state of the nation dropped like a rock after the 2016 election, polling shows.
A Pew Research Center poll released last week also showed trust in the government climbed among Republicans following the election of President Donald Trump.
When asked about their satisfaction with the state of the country, just 16 percent of Democrats and those who lean Democrat said they were satisfied – down from 33 percent in January and 52 percent last October.
GOP satisfaction with the country, on the other hand, spiked to 49 percent, up from 24 percent in January and 11 percent in October, the poll showed.
The same Democratic pessimism was noted when asked how confident they are about the country's future, the poll showed: just 28 percent say they have quite a lot of confidence in the country's future, down from 50 percent in 2015. And while 34 percent of Democrats now say they have little or no confidence in the nation's future; just 12 percent said that a year and a half ago.
GOP confidence, meanwhile, is also spiking, with 59 percent saying they have quite a lot of confidence in the country’s future and 22 percent saying they have some confidence; just 18 percent say they have little or none.
The share with a lot of confidence in the country's future is up 19 points from 2015, when 40 percent said they had a lot of confidence and 42 percent said they had some confidence, the poll noted.
One thing both partisan groups share: anger, according to the poll; 21 percent of Republicans and 24 percent of Democrats are angry about the federal government.
