U.S. Cyber Monday sales reached a record $6.59 billion, making it the largest-ever single day of sales online in the U.S.

Adobe provided the sales numbers and said Cyber Monday was the only day in the previous five that exceeded its projections, TechCrunch reported. Internet traffic was up 11.9 percent for the day.

A record $2 billion of the Cyber Monday sales were made on smartphones this year, 40 percent more than last year’s smartphone sales, TechCrunch reported. iPhones and other Apple devices got higher sales numbers than Android devices, with the average iOS sale being $123 compared to Android’s $110.

Conversions — the number of shoppers who actually make a purchase — were 12 percent higher on mobile devices than they were last year, TechCrunch reported. A full 75 percent of millennials said prior to the Black Friday weekend that they expected to shop on mobile devices.

Popular items bought on Cyber Monday were the Nintendo Switch, PJ Masks toys, Hatchimals, Apple AirPods, Google Chromecast, and the Super Mario Odyssey video game, Forbes reported.

U.S. Thanksgiving Day online sales were $2.87 billion and Black Friday saw $5.03 billion in online sales, according to Forbes. Online sales in November through Monday totaled $50 billion, a 16.8 percent increase over last year. It is expected to be the first holiday shopping season to break $100 million in online sales.

The peak shopping hours for Cyber Monday were 8-11 p.m. in each local time zone, with those three hours typically generating more sales than a typical 24-hour day. Conversion rates between 11 p.m. and midnight are usually four times higher than average, Forbes reported.
