Republican National Committee officials are releasing a three-day schedule for the party's national convention, shortened because of Tropical Storm Isaac.
Party officials said presidential candidate Mitt Romney will be nominated Tuesday, as will vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan.
The storm that had originally threatened the Tampa Bay area was forecast to veer west into the Gulf of Mexico away from Florida.
Still, planners decided Saturday to delay the convention's start, then had to scramble to shave some speakers and find new places for others.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott gave up his speaking spot to deal with the storm. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal remained on the schedule, but party leaders said it was possible he might not attend, given the storm was headed in his state's direction.
The prime-time speakers this week, including former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Representative Paul Ryan, both appearing on Aug. 29, will remain the same as previously scheduled, Russ Schriefer, a strategist for Romney, said.
Schriefer said some speakers from Monday's schedule will be dropped and that extending the convention to Aug. 31 remains “a hypothetical; some of Monday's speakers will be moved to Tuesday.
The convention will formally convene on Monday but remain in session for only 10 minutes, a plan dictated by concerns that the weather in the Tampa Bay region could threaten harm to delegates and others who have converged on the city.
Formal nominations for Romney and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, are slated for Tuesday at roughly the time the television networks air their evening news.
Tuesday evening's program includes remarks by Ann Romney, the candidate's wife, as well as by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, previously announced as the keynote speaker.
Ryan will deliver his acceptance speech Wednesday evening in prime time in the eastern part of the United States, and Romney's speech dominates the final night.
Real estate tycoon Donald Trump, originally scheduled to speak on Monday, was dropped from the program in the weather-related reshuffling.
