The Democratic counter-memo that rebuts the document released by the House Intelligence Committee is expected to be sent to President Donald Trump this week for approval of its release, CNN reports.
The GOP memo, written by Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., and released last Friday, alleges the FBI and the Justice Department abused their authority to obtain a warrant to spy on a former Trump campaign adviser suspected of being an agent of Russia.
Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of California, who wrote the counter-memo, alleges the GOP memo is misleading and inaccurate. The GOP-led House Intelligence Committee originally blocked the release of Schiff's memo, but last week released it to the House for review. The panel meets Monday at 5 p.m. and is expected to vote to send it to Trump's desk.
Several Republican representatives now say they will vote for the memo's release, including Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, Pete King of New York and Mike Turner of Ohio.
"Rep. Gowdy supports the exact same process for the minority memo as he did the majority memo," spokeswoman Amanda Gonzalez told CNN.
The president will have five days to decide on whether he wants to release the memo following the committee's vote. If he declines, the committee could send the matter to the House to vote on whether to make the document public.
White House spokesman Raj Shah told reporters Monday the Trump administration would consider the Schiff memo just as it did the Nunes document.
But Trump slammed Schiff on Twitter, saying he was, "desperate to run for higher office."
