Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick will donate the final $100,000 of his $1 million pledge on Wednesday.
Kaepernick, who sparked the movement of athletes kneeling in protest during the national anthem to protest against racial injustice, vowed in September 2017 to donate $1 million and all of the proceeds from sales of his jersey from the 2016 season to "organizations working in oppressed communities," and has recorded every donation on his website.
In January, 2017, he donated $25,000 to four different organizations. Black Veterans for Social Justice, 350.org, Center for Reproductive Rights, and Coalition for Human Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles.
Although he was not signed during the 2017 season, Kaepernick was named the NFL Players Association's Week 1 Community MVP, and was named GQ's Citizen of the Year.
