Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's remarks about coal miners were "horrific" and "horrible," according to one Democratic senator.
Clinton said in 2016 she would "put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business" when explaining her position on clean energy at a CNN Town Hall. She later explained on CNN she meant "the way things are going now, they will continue to lose jobs. It didn't mean that we were going to do it. What I said is that is going to happen unless we take action to help and prevent it."
At a Politico event Thursday, Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., said Clinton "said some horrific things, and I think, and just horrible what she said. But I knew in her heart what she meant: "We're not going to leave anybody behind," according to The Washington Free Beacon.
West Virginia coal miner Bo Copley, who confronted Clinton about her coal comments during a campaign stop in Williamson, W.Va., announced earlier this week he intends to challenge Manchin for his Senate seat, telling Yahoo! News: "It's what God's telling me to do."
