Former CNN President Jeff Zucker reportedly told employees not to look into claims that COVID-19 originated in a lab leak, dismissing it as a "talking point" of former President Donald Trump.
An unidentified CNN insider told Fox News Digital that Zucker would not allow the network to investigate the theory.
"People are slowly waking up from the fog," the source said. "It is kind of crazy that we didn't chase it harder."
Scientists from the Department of Energy recently concluded with "low confidence" that COVID-19 most likely originated in a laboratory leak, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The FBI later announced that it had reached a similar conclusion with "medium confidence." However, the National Intelligence Council and four other government agencies still conclude with "low confidence" that the virus originated by natural transmission from an animal.
A representative for the World Health Organization told CNN that the group "will keep examining all available scientific evidence that would help us advance the knowledge on the origin of SARS-CoV-2, and we call on China and the scientific community to undertake necessary studies in that direction. ... Until we have more evidence all hypotheses are still on the table."
