Perry: Romney's Bain Dealings May Be 'Fatal Flaw'

By    |   Sunday, 15 January 2012 01:15 PM EST

Texas Gov. Rick Perry brushed off the backing of former Pennsylvania Gov. Rick Santorum by an evangelical Christian group that met last week in the Lone Star State, and said he remains the most consistent conservative in the Republican presidential field.

“That’s what they said about Ronald Regan, as well, that he was unelectable,” Perry said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.”

Perry also dodged a question by host George Stephanopoulos about the candidate calling front-runner Mitt Romney a “vulture capitalist.”

“I think the issue for everyone is, look, this is not something that we knew wasn’t coming up, and it’s better to be talking about it here in January in South Carolina,” Perry said. “If it is a fatal flaw, then we need to talk about it now.”

Perry made the remark in regard to Romney’s involvement with the private Bain Capital firm.

“It’s all about jobs and getting this country back working again,” Perry said.
