Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie would not have ordered the FBI to conduct such a high-profile arrest of political consultant Roger Stone last week, he told Newsmax TV.
During an appearance on "The Howie Carr Show" Wednesday, Christie was asked whether he — a former U.S. attorney — would have mirrored what special counsel Robert Mueller did to Stone. The former Trump campaign adviser was taken into custody in a dramatic pre-dawn arrest at his Fort Lauderdale home.
"Having done that job for seven years as a U.S. attorney in New Jersey, unless there was demonstrated destruction of evidence going on, or if there were weapons in the house, there would be no reason to effect the arrest in that way," said Christie, the co-author of "Let Me Finish: Trump, the Kushners, Bannon, New Jersey, and the Power of In-Your-Face Politics."
"My guess is that what I would have done in that situation would have been call the person's attorney, tell him an indictment was forthcoming, and give them an opportunity to surrender themselves to the FBI to be processed prior to going to an appearance in court."

Stone was charged with several counts of lying and witness tampering as part of the Russia probe. He is accused of having a back-door relationship with WikiLeaks, which published damaging information about Democrat Hillary Clinton's campaign during the 2016 election.
