Broadcast journalist Chris Wallace reportedly will take his show to HBO Max after streaming service CNN+ was shut down last month.
CNN+ discontinued operations on April 28 due to dismal daily viewership — fewer than 10,000 daily viewers — less than a month after launching.
"I am going to be fine," Wallace told the Daily Mail shortly after CNN+ shut down. "I'm in good shape whether it's CNN or someplace else."
Wallace had left Fox News to host "Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace" on CNN+. He now will take the show to HBO's streaming service, Puck reported.
Wallace, son of former "60 Minutes" correspondent Mike Wallace, announced his departure from Fox News on Dec. 12. He had anchored Fox News Sunday since 2003.
"After 18 years — this is my final Fox News Sunday," Wallace said at the time. "It is the last time — and I say this with real sadness — we will meet like this.
"I want to try something new, to go beyond politics to all the things I’m interested in. I’m ready for a new adventure. And I hope you’ll check it out."
CNN+ staffers, many of whom gave up solid positions at CNN, were furious over the network pulling the plug on the streaming service, which had been a $300 million investment.
CNN said the former streaming service’s employees would be allowed to explore jobs at “CNN, CNN Digital, and elsewhere in the Warner Bros. Discovery family.”
HBO Max is part of last month’s WarnerMedia and Discovery $43 billion merger.
New CNN Chair and CEO Chris Licht vowed to restore viewers’ trust in the network. He added that the disappointing performance of CNN+, saying it was “a uniquely s****y situation,” the Washington Examiner reported.
Even before CNN+ debuted, a Radar report said Wallace "irate" about at the ousting of CNN president Jeff Zucker and his future at the news network was uncertain. Zucker announced his resignation Feb. 2 after revealing that he had a relationship with a senior network executive.
"Chris is the type of person who makes it known if he doesn't like something," a source told Radar. "He went over there for Zucker and now Zucker is gone."
