Chris Christie on Wednesday blasted GOP lawmakers for not mounting a good defense of President Donald Trump after Michael Cohen delivered a devastating takedown of his ex-boss at a House hearing.
In remarks on ABC News posted by The Daily Beast, Christie, a commentator for the network and former New Jersey governor, said he was surprised by the lack of a GOP strategy.
"The interesting thing is that there hasn't been one Republican yet who has tried to defend the president on the substance, and I think that's something that should be concerning to the White House," Christie said.
"Why are no Republicans standing up and defending the president on the substance," he continued. "That's either a failure of those Republicans on the Hill, or a failure of the White House to have a unified strategy with them."
Christie noted, "They knew what was coming with Michael Cohen."
"He's not a credible witness, but he does have corroboration on certain things," Christie said. "Where is the defense of the president?"
