Another secret Facebook group connect to various current and former members of U.S. Customs and Border Protection has been found sharing mocking, vulgar and derisive images, CNN reports.
The pictures mock the policy of separating migrant children from their parents or guardians, the poor conditions of the detention centers where migrants are being held, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., a strong critic of CBP. There also are images posted to the group that mock Asians and African Americans in general.
"Racism and sexism in the Border Patrol just doesn't belong," said a source who was familiar with the pictures, which were posted to the group The Real CBP Nation.
A memo, written by CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility assistant commissioner Matthew Klein in 2018, shows that the agency was concerned about employees’ use of social media, and warned them that "the bottom line is the Agency may bring discipline against an employee who posts offensive messages on a social media page where there is a nexus to the Agency workplace.”
Although CBP did not provide CNN with a comment on the new information, the agency did say that it was passed along to the Office of Professional Responsibility.
