Carly Schroeder, the star of the hit TV comedy "Lizzie McGuire," and many TV movies, has ditched Hollywood to enlist in the U.S. Army and says there is no way she is "going to let the boys have all the fun."

The actress, 28, announced her decision to enlist into the Army in February when she revealed in an Instagram post that she had been accepted into Officer Candidate School. Her motivation was rooted in the desire to do good in the world, she said.

Schroeder's reasoning was that the Army could give her a platform and equip her with the skills to give aid to veterans and rescue victims of human trafficking— two things she is deeply passionate about.

"Serving my country will give my voice more validity," she wrote in her post. "I can better serve and advocate for veterans once I am a part of their community. The military is a family and family always has each others back."

It is not a decision Schroeder took lightly. In fact, she spent a great deal of time contemplating it before finally deciding to take the leap.

"I've been considering it for a while and it is a big choice, but thankfully my parents and my little brother were very supportive of me," she told TMZ Wednesday.

Schroeder has already participated in numerous grueling training courses and hopes to work in military intelligence after she completes Officer Candidate School. Fueling her is a smattering of healthy family competition.

"My brother is a Marine and my papa was a Green Beret," she posted to Instagram. "There is no way I am going to let the boys have all the fun."

Lizzy McGuire was a huge hit for the Disney channel until 2004. Carly has continued acting, appearing in the TV movie "Deadly Shores" last year and appearing on episodic TV shows incuding "General Hospital" and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."
