House Majority Leader Cantor Endorses Romney

By    |   Sunday, 04 March 2012 09:33 AM EST

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor endorsed Mitt Romney’s presidential bid Sunday morning on NBC’s “Meet the Press."

The Virginia Republican, who cited the economy as the top issue on the minds of voters, became the first sitting House GOP leader to back the former Massachusetts governor. It comes in the run-up to Super Tuesday, when Virginia voters will vote in their primary.

Cantor's endorsement comes amid tallies showing that few Republican leaders have picked one of the four major GOP candidates.

Cantor rejected the idea that he wants the vice-presidential slot on the 2012 GOP ticket.

“I am not open to that," he said. "This is about Mitt Romney and making sure that he is put into office."
