The border situation will not come under control unless government officials take action to bring the nation's immigration laws under control, National Border Patrol Council Brandon Judd said Tuesday.
"This is a dream come true for organized crime for the criminal cartels," Judd told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."
"What they're able to do is able to distract us, push these individuals across, take our resources out of the field, and tie up our hands in order to create these gaps in the border so they can push their higher value products across the border."
If officials do not get control of the border, he warned, "we're going to continue to see more fentanyl, more deaths in the United States. We have to control the border, and these migrants are being used as pawns. That's the reason why this is so important."
But the government could stop such actions, said Judd.
"It isn't rocket science," said Judd. "All we have to do is put more resources on the border. We need to get behind those individuals who actually want to secure the border."
The simple threat alone that people would be held in custody pending deportation proceedings was enough to drop numbers exponentially before, but numbers have gone up because "everybody knows that they can continue to exploit our loopholes," said Judd. "The catch and release program continues and while that continues that will be the magnet that draws these individuals here."
