President Donald Trump complained he never got a chance to participate in Bob Woodward's book about the Trump White House, according to an audio recording of a phone call between the president and journalist.
Trump called Woodward, an associate editor at The Washington Post, in early August after the manuscript of "Fear: Trump in the White House" had been completed, the Post reported.
And though Woodward told Trump he had sought an interview with him while writing the book, which is due out Sept. 11, the president repeatedly claimed his staff had not told him about the interview request, the audio showed.
"I just spoke with Kellyanne [Conway], and she asked me if I got a call. I never got a call. I never got a message. Who did you ask about speaking to me?" Trump asked Woodward.
The journalist replied he spoke to "about six people," to which Trump complained: "They don't tell me."
"A lot of them [staff] are afraid to come and talk, or — you know, they are busy. I'm busy," Trump said. "But I don't mind talking to you. I would've spoken to you . . ."
"It's really too bad, because nobody told me about it, and I would've loved to have spoken to you," Trump declared. "You know I'm very open to you. I think you've always been fair. We'll see what happens . . ."
