Rep. Marsha Blackburn: McCarthy Spoke 'Inartfully,'Will be Speaker

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy spoke "inartfully" last week when he touted the fact that the GOP-led Benghazi committee had helped hurt Democrat Hillary Clinton's presidential poll numbers, but it won't be a death blow to his bid to be House speaker, Tennesee Rep. Marsha Blackburn said Sunday.

Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz on Sunday announced he has withdrawn his support for McCarthy and will instead challenge him to replace outgoing speaker John Boehner.

"You might have another one or two that step in the race," Blackburn said on CNN's "State of the Union."

"I do think McCarthy has the votes for it, she said. "He did speak inartfully this week. There's no doubt. That's something that has hurt him, and I'm sure he wishes he could take it back and reposition."

The Benghazi committee has a serious job to do, though, Blackburn said, when it hears Clinton testify later this month.

"The American people know Hillary Clinton can blame no one but herself when it comes to who made the mistakes with the server, who made mistakes with Benghazi. And they want her to tell the truth," she said.
