Bill O'Reilly Makes 'Inaccurate' Claim About Newsmax Ratings, Giuliani Responds

By    |   Thursday, 18 March 2021 02:18 PM EDT

Fake news attacks by liberal media on conservatives and Newsmax have become so pervasive, even a conservative stalwart like Bill O'Reilly is propagating it, laments Andrew Giuliani on Newsmax TV.

Giuliani, a Newsmax contributor, struck back at O'Reilly for picking up a liberal talking point in saying Newsmax viewership is down "by 50%" since the 2020 election.

The story line promoted by liberal Mediaite and CNN, with data quietly pushed to them by Fox News, just doesn’t hold up to the full Nielsen data.

"It's just cherrypicked numbers from just a few days after the election, when of course most people are turning in to cable news, to the end of February, when there is going to be a small ratings fall – which you have seen across all news networks," Giuliani told Wednesday's "John Bachman Now."

Giuliani noted that Newsmax ratings have, in fact, seen strong increases since last November’s election.

For example, Nielsen data shows that Total Day viewership from the 4th quarter of 2020, covering the full period of the election, was up an astounding 800% from the 3rd quarter of 2020.

The Nielsen data also shows Newsmax’s TV audience has continued to grow with average Total Day viewership up 24% so far in the 1st quarter of 2021 compared to last year’s 4th quarter.

Evening broadcasts on Newsmax have showed a similar trend, with a 33% bump in the 4-8 p.m. hours and 20% from 8-11 p.m., according to Nielsen.

O'Reilly used his webcast to make the claim about Newsmax’s ratings.

"Now we learn that Newsmax, the surging conservative cable channel, which added viewers because they disputed the election in Donald Trump's favor, has lost 50% of its audience in February, last month – 50%," O'Reilly said this week on his "No Spin News."

"Bill used to be probably be the best at this; unfortunately, even the best pitchers lose their fastball," Giuliani said. "What Bill's saying is just inaccurate and it's cherrypicked.

"He's just flat out wrong when it comes to this."

Host John Bachman also said O’Reilly was wrong when he said Newsmax “disputed the election in Donald Trump's favor.”

Newsmax never disputed the election results, Bachman said, pointing out that the network fairly covered President Trump’s challenges to the results.

O’Reilly strongly opposed and criticized Trump for challenging the election results and said that he had "destroyed his legacy" after the Jan. 6 protests.

Despite the O’Reilly spin, Giuliani said "we dominate the OTT platforms" as the only major cable news channel to stream free on most online platforms and Smart TVs.

"We're still the No. 4 cable news network even with our strong OTT presence," he added, reporting that more than 5 million people have downloaded the free Newsmax smartphone app since Election Day.
