The Washington Post is making note of its owner, Jeff Bezos, and the size of his charitable donations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Post, Bezos, the wealthiest man in the world with a fortune of $143 billion, gave $100 million to Feeding America and up to $25 million for All in WA, a relief effort in Washington state.
“For the median American, Bezos’ giving is the equivalent of donating $85,” the newspaper reported. The Post said the median net worth of an American household registers at $97,300.
It also pointed out that his aerospace company, Blue Origins, pledged to print face shields for front line workers, but has not disclosed the value of the contribution.
Bezos is also the founder of Amazon.
After stepping away from Amazon’s daily management, he returned earlier this year to help navigate his company’s day-to-day operations through the pandemic.
The newspaper’s Thursday report highlighted the nation’s 50 wealthiest people and their donations during the COVID-19 outbreak.
It found that they had a collective net worth of nearly $1.6 trillion and their publicly announced donations came to about $1 billion — 0.1% of their combined wealth.
