Following the House Select Committee on Benghazi report faulting the Obama administration for its actions connected to the 2012 terrorist attack in Libya that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, his sister, Dr. Anne Stevens, told The New Yorker she doesn't blame Hillary Clinton, who was secretary of state at the time, for what happened.

"The Benghazi Mission was understaffed." Dr. Stevens said. "We know that now. But, again, Chris knew that. It wasn't a secret to him. He decided to take the risk to go there…

"We all recognize that there's a risk in serving in a dangerous environment. Chris thought that was very important, and he probably would have done it again. I don't see any usefulness in continuing to criticize [Clinton]. It is very unjust."

Regarding Donald Trump's reaction to the Benghazi report that a Clinton presidency would be "catastrophic for the future of our country," Dr. Stevens said she did not want to make a political issue out of the terrorist attack and that her brother "admired [Clinton's] ability to intensely read the issues and understand the whole picture."

Stevens suggested the underlying cause of the insufficient protection at the facility was not Clinton's fault, saying, "Perhaps if Congress had provided a budget to increase security for all missions around the world, then some of the requests for more security in Libya would have been granted."

Stevens, who is a specialist in autoimmune conditions at Seattle Children's Hospital, has since her brother's death tried to continue his legacy by striving to help Libya improve emergency care.
