A crash at an auto auction in Massachusetts on Wednesday morning left three people dead and at least 11 injured when a Jeep drove through a wall and into a group of people, ABC 11 News reported.
Massachusetts State Police are viewing the crash at the Lynnway Auto Auction as an accident.
“At this point, there is no evidence or information to suggest the incident was caused by an intentional or terrorist act. All evidence and information at this time suggest an accidental cause,” the release said.
The vehicle was waiting to enter the auction but suddenly sped up and crashed into the building.
“As the vehicle began to enter the building it suddenly accelerated,” said Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan, according to CBS News. “[It] traveled through the inside of the building at a high rate of speed and ultimately crashed into a cinder block wall.”
Woody Tuttle, an employee at the auction in Billerica, Massachusetts, who witnessed the whole thing, told ABC 11 News, “I heard a screeching of tires, and, I believe, a Jeep Cherokee went flying by me. In avoiding the cars, whoever was driving this vehicle hit several people.”
A witness who identified himself as Geraldo told CBS Boston he was inside the building for the auction when the incident occurred.
“It hit the wall all the way to the end,” he said about the car that apparently sped up when it crashed into the building. “It’s a concrete wall. So many people are hurt. It happened so quick and it was so much damage because there are just so many people.”
The crash is still under investigation.
