Investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson is suing the federal government to get access to information about last year's rollout of Obamacare, which Congress has so far been unable to do.

The former CBS News journalist and senior independent contributor to The Daily Signal, filed the lawsuit against the Department of Health and Human Services after four unanswered information requests under the Freedom of Information Act, the Signal reported.

"From the moment Health and Human Services falsely denied it was tracking enrollment numbers in the early disastrous days of HealthCare.gov, to HHS keeping secret the details of the security risks it discovered prior to — and after — the website's launch, to HHS excluding journalists from viewing — but inviting favored private interests to view — the repair operations in progress, I've been seeking much of this undeniably public information," Attkisson said in a statement on her website.

To date, Congress has been unsuccessful in its pursuit of the information during its investigation into the matter which has included subpoenas for the information.

Last week, HHS wrote to House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa to notify him that the documents requested "might not be retrievable," the Daily Signal reported.

Issa has suggested that the Obama administration has destroyed emails without disclosure to Congress or the National Archives which he said was "in violation of federal law."

Attkisson, who will be represented by Judicial Watch, the government watchdog, said that while her lawsuit will never be able to produce documents "out of thin air," she is hoping a court might help "get to the bottom of what occurred."

"It doesn't hurt to try," she added.
